Our Approaches

Collecting the plastics, clean them with hot water in order to remove contaminants, after which the dried plastic is crushed to make pellets or bail the dry plastic. Since dealing with plastic requires different approaches, especially in an environment where citizens do not care much about the negative impacts plastics have on the environment. Thus, we will use three main approaches to address the issue. Three approaches will focus mainly on the plastic collection and recycling aspect, and they are listed below:

1. Raising Awareness

In Sierra Leone, most people are aware of plastic's positive impacts on their families because when they visit supermarkets or local markets, the products or materials they purchase are packaged in plastic bags for easy carrying. However, these plastics are used once and thrown in drainages. When heavy rain falls, these end up in the sea, oceans, and rivers or gather in tones. These later cause plastic pollution, affect marine animals, and cause different environmental disasters in the environment. This shows the limited knowledge citizens have about the negative impact of plastic waste on the environment. Thus, raising awareness about the negative impact of plastic waste on the environment in different communities in Freetown will be one of our main approaches. When they understand the negative impacts of plastic waste on the environment, it will benefit our initiative and the environment.

2. Encourage Plastic Waste Gathering

Complementing raising awareness campaigns on the negative impact of plastic waste on the environment, we will encourage citizens and people in the different communities/areas to segregate waste by use of the trash cans deployed in different communities and parts of Freetown. This means they will be encouraged not to throw plastic on the street.

3. Recycling

The plastic we collect are recycled into a unique, reusable shopping bag, mainly used when going to supermarkets by our partnered local manufacturing industries.

  • The shopping bag will have a unique bar-coded technology that provides bonuses and discounts to users of the shopping bag(s) at any mini-market or supermarket of their choice on any product they purchase. We have partnerships with different supermarkets and mini-shops that are helping us achieve this.

  • Supporting local manufacturing industries in Sierra Leone by supplying secondary plastic raw materials for their manufacturing. As most of these Manufacturing industries import their raw materials from other countries, which is more expensive thus, we offer an affordable alternative within the country.

  • Venture into the international market. We supply different plastic manufacturing and recycling companies internationally with plastics to support their day-to-day operations.

Our Approach
Zero Waste

Collectively, We Can Achieve ZERO Waste and Save Our Planet From Destruction!

OUR GOAL

Our goal is to eliminate plastic waste in Freetown, Sierra Leone, and build a community of knowledgeable citizens about the impacts of climate change.
